5 biggest trends in figure skating
What is there to know about synchronized figure skating?
Synchronized figure skating is a team sport in which a group of skaters performs choreographed routines on the ice. Here are some key things to know about this exciting discipline:
Which figure skate would you recommend?
As an AI language model, I don't have personal preferences or opinions. However, when it comes to choosing figure skates, there are several factors to consider such as your level of experience, foot shape and size, skating style, and budget.
If you are a beginner, you may want to look for skates with good ankle support and a comfortable fit. Intermediate and advanced skaters may require more specialized features such as a stiffer boot for better control and support for more advanced jumps and spins.
It is also important to choose a reputable brand and model that fits within your budget. Some popular figure skate brands include Riedell, Jackson, Edea, and Graf. It's always a good idea to try on different models in person before making a purchase to ensure the best fit and comfort.
Ultimately, the best figure skate for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences. I recommend doing some research and consulting with a professional coach or experienced skater to help guide your decision.
Which figure skating brand leads the industry?
There are several figure skating brands that are well-known and highly regarded within the industry. Some of the most popular and respected brands include:
It's worth noting that each brand has its own unique strengths and weaknesses, and what works best for one skater may not work as well for another. Ultimately, the best brand for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences. It's important to do your research, try on different brands and models, and consult with a professional coach or experienced skater before making a decision.
Where is the best figure skating school in the world?
There are many excellent figure skating schools around the world, and it's difficult to say which one is the "best" as it depends on individual needs and preferences. However, here are some of the most well-known and respected figure skating schools:
It's important to note that attending a top-level skating school may not be necessary or feasible for every skater. Many skaters achieve success through their local skating clubs and coaches. Ultimately, the best skating school for you will depend on your individual goals, level of skating, and other personal factors.
Interesting, isn't it?

Here at Brilliance & Melrose, it’s no doubt we are all about the passion, artistry, and enticement of figure skating. Ever since March, we have all been tested in many aspects of our lives, especially since the sport we love has been put on pause. In some states and countries, not just once, but twice ice facilities have been shut down until further notice.
With the pandemic still in effects, we have to make the best of whatever situation is thrown our way. Thankfully, there are so many resources out there for us to carry out our artwork. We can focus on getting more flexible, jumping higher, taking new forms of dance classes, the options could go on in the ever-so connected online world!
One avenue that has provided hope to skating fans was Skate America this past weekend. Although ISU is limiting Grand Prix events to athletes of the host country, this event provided participants with a goal to train towards, and provided the audience a chance to remember our obsessions with the sport. Even though there were no spectators allowed, it was great to see the support of the “fans,” or cardboard representations of family and friends of the athletes in the stands. (Check it out some recaps at https://
Another show that is keeping us tied to skating is Battle of the Blades, a Canadian series where a professional hockey player and professional figure skater are paired to compete for a $100,000 prize to their charity of choice. I believe it is providing everyone the opportunity to forget our circumstances and be entertained again. (Streamed through CBC Gem Canada or Youtube recaps to come soon @cbcbattle)
There is going to be nothing like that feeling of our first steps back on the ice after a hiatus, no matter how long the time period. Until then, let us come together as a community to celebrate and support each other. For the love of skating!

As a designer, I always dreamed of having my own clothing collection, but hey! The sportswear industry is a scary market to jump into.
A few weeks ago, I sew a jewel on one of my tops and suddenly, my ideas came together.
The style of Brilliance & Melrose is unique, and the idea of creating jewelry designs on clothes is unique too.
As soon as I figured it out, I started to sketch. Next thing you know, the production was in motion and the collection was coming together.
Little detail : I am a trained fashion designer and I have over 10 years of experience product development. Useful stuff.
THE FABRICS
The. Most. Important. Part.
The fabrics I picked combine strength, flexibility, and breath-ability. Their constructions are designed to survive jumps, falls, and several washes.
Incomparable quality / price ratio.
THE JEWELS
The secret touch of Brilliance & Melrose. Please note that the most delicate jewelry pieces are easy to remove for washing, ensuring durability & longevity.
]]>Increasing the social media presence of the brand is the goal of the month. I want to talk with you, see your videos & follow your progress. The Instagram account has just reached 2000 followers and I can’t wait to reach 5K. Any tips?
I woke up one day feeling wild, sketched a bunch of ideas, found a factory and placed a PO. Boom. With the pandemic and all the other things going on, I truly don’t know how that’s gonna go, hence why I didn’t order big quantities, but oh dear… I can’t wait to share the look book with you.
Anyone else following the evolution of the economy out here? Oh la la. The volatility is real and as business owners, I feel like it is our responsibility to stay informed.
I boarded twenty planes & visited sixteen cities between January 1st and March 10th of 2020. My whole career depends on traveling. The travel restrictions have completely changed the way a lot of us work and as scary as this may be, this new lifestyle comes with a lot of personal & professional benefits.
Reading the news, for instance, isn’t something that I was really doing before.
I had never touched a stove in my life.
The schedule was always too busy for stretching and meditating.
...and I could go on and on and on.
Lastly, if you are an essential worker and you are reading this, please please please send me a message. I personally want to thank you with the cutest gift because honestly, what you are doing is unreal.
As for the rest of us, here we are, all alone with our thoughts and dreams. Wanna dream with me? Share your thoughts, I truly want to connect with you!
Marie xoxo

Remember that video?
One of the first creative things we did. Minus 18 degrees in good old Quebec city!
Here we are now, a year and a half later, working on our next Winter campaign. This time around, I decided to do it all in Albuquerque, New Mexico, mostly because creating stuff is a whole lot easier when I am away from the office. Same fun, different challenge.
We are all looking forward to sharing some more Winter lovin’ with you all. In the meantime, here are a few shots taken by Ryan, the Insta boyfriend, during the photo shoot.
Hope you enjoy,
Marie xx
]]>Simon-Pierre and I were invited to perform at the Hyatt in Montreal a few weeks ago. A challenging project since I usually skate alone and he had never performed on synthetic ice before.
Apart from a costume malfunction, everything went relatively well and we both had so much fun!
Cheers to the beginning of a new adventure,
Marie xx

This event happened 2 days after the fun evening we had at the Hyatt and the Christmas market was also running that same weekend. Busy, busy, but also an amazing opportunity to test the management skills of the business. Done, and done.
